You may have caught sight of I & A Fashions when in Tooting Broadway, its blue storefront now a staple clothing beacon nestled within the busy and bustling Mitcham Road in Tooting.
What first began as a family run business, selling children’s clothes and school uniforms, ignited a spark of inspiration when the owners realised they could offer the community better quality clothes for a less hefty price than many local competitors; the idea has now grown into something much bigger and far more special.
I & A sets itself apart from your average clothing store or even your average school uniform shop. Its end goal is to provide people with great fashion at equally great prices and its staff have always been proud of being friendly, part of the community and willing to help customers with anything they may need.
Established in 1993, I & A quickly gained momentum and immense interest, expanding throughout the years and opening up four separate stores. In 1994, it started selling ladies fashion, in 1995 it debuted menswear, 1996 saw the introduction of nursery products and clothes aimed at 0-3 year olds.
Throughout the following years, I & A secured itself a purpose-built store consisting of 5,000 square ft in shop floor and 2,000 square ft in storage facilities just to accommodate the growing stock and to keep up with demand. This building is the very same one you now see in the heart of Tooting,
Starting off with 3 local primary school contracts with Heathbrook, Gatton and Allen Edwards in the beginning, this has now increased to 7. I & A as a brand is constantly rapidly growing and is always open to more partnerships with local and national schools.
Taken over by the owner’s two sons in 2019, I & A has now successfully launched three separate standalone brands to offer even more to customers; Boujique, Boujique Kids and nursery brand Swaddle & Stork each have their own unique themes, motivation and target audience and are enjoying increased attention.
Despite working on progressing in their respective careers in law and financial consultancy, the brothers have worked tirelessly to keep the meaning of the family business alive and thriving in the community.
I & A have also welcomed a steadily growing number of team members to help achieve the ideal vision and ensure it remains a key player in the wide world of fast fashion, it is joined by a Business Development Manager, a Head of Graphics and Photography, a Digital Operations Lead and a Content Manager
Vision has always been an important and vital factor in the history of I & A. In the last year, it started selling shoes, jewellery, hair accessories, christening clothes, specialist extras and even more school uniform items than ever before. Its goal is to keep on offering more and more great quality products to the community and people they care so much about and to bring this community spirit and quality offering to a national audience.
